The Depok City Government continues to expand its network of strategic partnerships with academic institutions to boost the human development index and local employment. The Mayor of Depok received a working visit from the management of the University of Indonesia Women’s Family Association at the Depok City Regional Crafts Council Building on Friday.
This meeting served as a forum to strengthen bilateral collaboration between the Depok City Government and the University of Indonesia, focusing on interventions in regional education structuring and international job market expansion.
Reducing Capacity Gaps through the RSSG Program
During the presentation, the Mayor highlighted the gap between high public interest in public schools and the limited physical infrastructure capacity and availability of teaching staff. In response to this challenge, the Depok City Government relies on the draft Free Private School Initiation program as a safety valve to guarantee citizens’ right to education.
The RSSG scheme is designed to involve the private education ecosystem at the downstream level:
-
Education Unit Partnership: The local government has officially partnered with 47 private schools at the junior high school and Islamic junior high school levels.
-
Budget Subsidy: All operational costs for students are fully covered by the Depok City Regional Budget, making free private schools a valid alternative for parents.
“The presence of UI amidst these urban dynamics is expected to continue guiding inclusive education programs. We want Depok’s native children to have high competitiveness and greater opportunities to gain admission to UI,” said the Mayor.
Social Inclusion and Transnational Employment Protocol
Furthermore, the mayor presented two ongoing priority regional programs. In the social protection sector, the Depok City Government is finalizing the launch of the Special Children’s Creative House. This facility is targeted to become a center for skills training, creativity, and potential incubation for children with disabilities to achieve economic independence.
Meanwhile, in the labor absorption sector, the Depok City Government is activating strategic partnerships through the “Depok Maju Go Global” program. This program opens access to international pathways for Depok residents through three main corridors:
-
Internship Facilities: Sending skilled workers to foreign industries.
-
Educational Scholarships: Access to studies at international partner universities.
-
Professional Job Opportunities: Formal job placements in the global market.
Through cross-sector consolidation and academic support from the University of Indonesia, the Depok City Government is optimistic about creating more comprehensive public policies to drive economic growth and social welfare in the Depok City area.
