Seven individuals suspected of being “mata elang” (debt collectors) who were troubling residents in Depok, West Java, have been arrested by the police. Additionally, officers confiscated four motorcycles from them.
It is known that “mata elang” refers to individuals typically working for motor vehicle credit financing companies and tasked with collecting debts.
The Head of Public Relations of Metro Depok Police, AKP Made Budi, stated that the arrest of the seven individuals stemmed from Operation Pekat Jaya on Friday (1/8/2025) in Depok.
“(Patrol) On Friday, we conducted a joint patrol with the Criminal Investigation Unit from Metro Depok Police and secured seven individuals suspected of being ‘mata elang’ in the Sukmajaya area,” said Made.
He explained that the patrol was conducted following public concern over “mata elang” activities in Depok. The seven individuals reportedly claimed to work for a financing company.
“Yes, in response to reports on social media, we took swift action from Metro Depok Police to conduct an operation—Operation Pekat Jaya, a territorial operation,” he said.
In addition to apprehending the seven debt collectors, police also seized four motorcycles. The evidence was taken for further examination of document validity.
“According to information, they were still employed by several financing companies. The motorcycles have been secured—four units—and we are conducting a detailed inspection to verify whether they have legitimate documents,” he explained.
