Jakarta

A video of a chaotic crowd and emerging flames has gone viral on social media. The incident was narrated as occurring in Kalimalang.

In the video viewed on Monday (1/9/2025), the viral clip circulated last night. The recording shows residents gathered under a flyover.

The crowd spilled onto the street and began running. Some residents watched the crowd from building yards. The viral video was also paired with a song titled ‘Buruh Tani’.

When asked for confirmation, Chief of Bekasi City Metro Police, Kombes Kusumo Wahyu Bintoro, stated that the chaotic video was not from Kalimalang.

“Yes, that’s correct, it’s fake news,” said Kusumo, confirming that the viral video was a hoax and actually occurred in Makassar.

As known, there was indeed a mass gathering in Bekasi last night. However, the location was on Jalan Pangeran Jayakarta, Bekasi City, West Java.

At that location, firecracker explosions were heard. Flames were also seen near the crowd. It wasn’t clear what was burning, only black smoke was visible rising. This event differs from the circulating hoax video. The viral images are significantly different from the actual facts on the ground.

Kombes Kusumo urged the public not to spread false news. Kusumo asked the public to verify the truth of information circulating on social media.

“Please, the public should not participate in spreading information that is inaccurate or unverified,” he said.
