Bekasi City – A minor died after being stabbed following mutual insults and challenges on social media in Pondok Melati, West Java. The perpetrator, also a minor, was arrested and has been handed over to the prosecutor’s office.

“The incident began when the victim and the perpetrator had a conflict on social media, then challenged each other,” said Senior Commissioner Kusumo Wahyu Bintoro in a press conference on Wednesday (May 14, 2026).

“There was definitely a problem; they insulted each other on social media. When they met, they brought up the issue again, and the victim was stabbed,” he added.

Kusumo stated that the stabbing occurred when the victim and the perpetrator got into a fight on Wednesday (April 22) at around 10:00 PM local time. The perpetrator, who had prepared a knife, then stabbed the victim to death near the location.

“Because there was already a problem on social media, they got into a fight, and it turned out the perpetrator had prepared a knife, so the victim was stabbed and died not far from the location,” Kusumo said.

Kusumo said the fight between the victim and the perpetrator was triggered by a romantic relationship issue. Both were allegedly fighting over a girlfriend.

“(The initial problem) was also about a close relationship with a woman, like that. Yes, something like that (fighting over a woman),” Kusumo said.

Kusumo said the victim and the perpetrator were still middle school students in Bekasi. They knew each other on social media, until they eventually challenged each other and arranged to meet to fight.

“The victim was 13 years old and died, while the perpetrator is a child in conflict with the law, initials YY, aged 14,” Kusumo said.

“There is one perpetrator. The case has already reached the second stage. This child in conflict with the law has been handed over to the prosecutor’s office,” he added.
