KOTA BEKASI — The Traffic Unit of the Bekasi City Metro Police is still investigating a fatal accident involving an operational vehicle from the SPPG in the East Bekasi area. In the incident, one person was reported dead, while another victim is still undergoing intensive care.
The Head of Traffic for Bekasi City Metro Police stated that officers have processed the crime scene, secured evidence, and examined several witnesses at the location.
“So far, we have processed the crime scene, secured evidence, and gathered witness statements. We have also requested CCTV footage, which is currently being analyzed,” he said.
According to initial police information, the vehicle came from an SPPG kitchen not far from the accident site. Local residents had also complained about the vehicle, as it often sped through relatively narrow roads.
Based on the preliminary timeline, the vehicle was coming from a turn and tried to avoid a motorcycle in front of it. However, the driver allegedly panicked, mistakenly pressed the gas pedal, and lost control.
“The driver tried to avoid a motorcycle but apparently failed to brake and instead pressed the gas. The vehicle then swerved at high speed, hitting two vendor carts in the area,” he explained.
As a result of the incident, one victim died from severe injuries. Another victim, known to be the vehicle’s assistant, is still receiving medical treatment. The driver suffered only minor injuries and is now being held at the Traffic Unit office for further investigation.
Police are also examining the vehicle’s technical condition through a roadworthiness test for the SPPG operational vehicle.
So far, at least three witnesses have been questioned, including a parking attendant and vendors near a minimarket close to the accident site. Police have also confirmed that the SPPG management will be summoned for questioning.
“All relevant parties will be called to shed light on this incident,” he concluded.
