A motorcyclist died instantly after being involved in a traffic incident with a truck of unknown identity on A H Nasution Road, Cipadung Village, Cibiru District, Bandung City, around 8:02 PM. The accident left major questions as the truck driver fled the scene immediately after the incident.
The victim, identified by the initials GN, a resident of Bandung City, died at the scene from severe injuries after falling from the motorcycle he was riding, which was suspected to have been sideswiped by a heavy vehicle.
Based on gathered information, the accident began when the victim was riding a Honda Beat motorcycle with license plate D 2683 ACZ from west to east on the stretch of A H Nasution Road. Traffic conditions at the time were reported to be relatively smooth.
The unfortunate event occurred when the victim was at the scene of the incident and came into contact with another vehicle.
The motorcycle ridden by the victim is suspected to have been hit by a light truck traveling in the opposite lane. The impact caused the victim to lose control and ultimately fall onto the road.
“Upon arrival at the scene, the victim’s vehicle was hit or sideswiped by a vehicle suspected to be a light truck,” said a police official.
As a result of the collision, the victim suffered fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene. There was no opportunity for the victim to receive medical assistance as his condition was beyond help.
Police officers who arrived at the location immediately processed the scene and evacuated the victim’s body. Subsequently, GN’s body was taken to the forensic installation of Hasan Sadikin Hospital in Bandung for further handling.
“The victim died at the scene and was immediately taken to the Forensic Department of Hasan Sadikin Hospital in Bandung City,” the official stated.
Preliminary investigation results reveal the accident is suspected to have occurred when the victim intended to turn right. At the same time, a truck was traveling from the opposite direction and hit part of the victim’s vehicle.
The collision, which happened in a short time, gave the victim no chance to avoid it. The position of vehicles traveling in opposite directions increased the risk of collision, especially if the distance was already too close.
There is suspicion of an element of negligence from the truck driver involved in the accident. This suspicion is reinforced by the driver’s action of not stopping after the incident.
Instead of providing assistance, the truck driver continued the journey and left the location, thus complicating the process of identifying the vehicle involved.
“The truck driver is suspected to be negligent for not stopping the vehicle and not providing assistance after the accident,” the official said.
To this day, the traffic police are still conducting an intensive investigation to uncover the identity of the mysterious truck driver. A number of witnesses have been questioned to clarify the chronology of the event.
In addition, police are also gathering additional evidence, including possible CCTV footage around the incident location, to expedite the disclosure of the hit-and-run case that killed the motorcyclist.
