PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk has received the Green Warrior Award at the ESG Now Awards 2025. This award recognizes BNI’s success in implementing the Fishermen Welfare Improvement Program through Mangrove Forest Regeneration in Pangpang Bay, Banyuwangi, which represents one of the company’s flagship initiatives in environmental conservation and coastal community empowerment.
This program involves local community leaders who serve as primary drivers in empowering coastal communities through mangrove conservation. This initiative represents a tangible collaboration between the company, local communities, regional government, and strategic partners to create sustainable social and environmental impact.
The Corporate Secretary expressed gratitude and appreciation for the award. “This award serves as concrete evidence of BNI’s commitment to integrating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles into every aspect of the company’s activities, particularly in supporting environmental conservation and improving community welfare,” they stated in a written announcement.
They added that this achievement serves as motivation for the company to continue strengthening the implementation of sustainability programs that provide direct impact for communities and the environment.
“The company will continue to strengthen the implementation of sustainability initiatives that not only focus on nature conservation but also promote the economic welfare of surrounding communities,” they further noted.
Through the Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility Program – BNI Sharing, the company actively drives various green initiatives across different regions of Indonesia. Cross-sector collaboration has been key to BNI’s success in strengthening the sustainability ecosystem, particularly in coastal areas.
The mangrove regeneration program in Pangpang Bay not only contributes to coastal ecosystem restoration but also provides tangible economic benefits for local communities. The mangrove ecosystem serves as an important habitat for various marine species and endemic birds, while also helping to improve fishermen’s catch through enhanced water quality. Thus, mangrove conservation also supports the creation of a sustainable coastal economy.
In addition to mangrove planting and maintenance activities, the company has also built supporting community facilities such as clean water infrastructure, worship facilities, and public toilets around the conservation area. These efforts not only improve community quality of life but also encourage the development of nature conservation-based ecotourism.
The company has also strengthened the organizational capacity of Community Monitoring Groups through training in conservation management and community-based tourism, enabling mangrove conservation activities to be managed independently and sustainably by local communities.
“Moving forward, the company is committed to expanding support for other green projects, including renewable energy development, energy efficiency, and environmentally friendly financing. We want to be part of the solution for a greener and more sustainable future for Indonesia,” they concluded.
This achievement reinforces the company’s position as one of the national banking pioneers that consistently integrates ESG principles into its business strategy. Through various sustainability initiatives, BNI continues to strive to become a catalyst for positive change toward an inclusive and resilient green economy in Indonesia.
