Jakarta: A small plane crashed and burst into flames during an air show in the Indonesian city of Bandung on Friday.

The pilot, the only person aboard the single-engine aircraft, was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

The Super Decathlon was apparently flying too low when it came in for landing, clipping its wing on the runway and then spinning out of control.

The crash was witnessed by hundreds of school children who were at the air show.

The accident occurred on the second day of the show, which was celebrating the 200th anniversary of the city of Bandung, located 80 miles (120 kilometers) southeast of the capital, Jakarta.

Bandung

Bandung, the capital of West Java, Indonesia, is a city known for its cool climate, colonial architecture, and vibrant arts scene. Historically, it gained prominence as a center of the Dutch East Indies plantation economy in the 19th century and later hosted the historic 1955 Asia-Africa Conference. Today, it remains a major cultural and educational hub, often called “Paris of Java” for its European-influenced charm.
