• Kolkata gang-rape case: The lawyer of the main accused in the South Calcutta Law College rape case claimed that apart from scratch marks, love bites were also found on Monojit Mishra’s body, but the prosecution did not disclose this. Monojit, a former student leader of the TMC, is one of three arrested for allegedly raping a 24-year-old student inside the college campus. Monojit has been remanded to police custody until July 8.

If it was rape, how were there love bites?

Monojit’s lawyer, Raju Ganguly, said, “The prosecution told you that scratch marks were found on the accused’s body. Did they ever share that love bites were also found? If it was rape, there would never be love bites on the accused’s body.”

    Accused Manojit Mishra

This claim follows a medico-legal examination, which also revealed multiple scratch marks on Monojit’s body, indicating signs of resistance from the victim.

    ‘A conspiracy to frame Monojit’

Speaking to the media, Ganguly alleged, “There are inconsistencies in the victim’s account, so I can confidently say this is a conspiracy to frame my client.”

    Why mention call details?

He also questioned whether police seized the victim’s phone and examined her call records. “We asked the prosecution if the victim’s phone was seized. If so, was it sent for forensic analysis? Did police check her call details? Many aspects of this case depend on these answers.”

What has happened in the case so far?

The victim stated that the alleged rape began inside a guard room. She said Monojit had earlier proposed a romantic and physical relationship, which she refused, after which he forced himself on her.

    How brutal were the accused?

The 24-year-old law student who accused a former student and two current students of gang rape described horrifying details. She said she suffered a panic attack during the assault and struggled to breathe. Monojit then allegedly asked another accused to bring an inhaler to help her. Once she stabilized, they dragged her into the guard room and assaulted her.

More revelations have emerged about Monojit, who reportedly wielded significant influence in the college despite being an ex-student. Teachers and staff feared him, and no one dared to speak loudly in his presence. A friend of Monojit has also disclosed disturbing details about him.

    Allegations against the government

The BJP has accused Mamata Banerjee’s government of failing to protect women, claiming lawlessness prevails in West Bengal. The gang rape occurred on the evening of June 25, 2025, inside the South Calcutta Law College campus.
