The Kolkata Municipal Corporation has ordered the demolition of allegedly illegal parts of his house for violating building rules. The Kolkata Municipal Corporation has ordered the demolition of a portion of the roof of former RG Kar Hospital principal Sandip Ghosh’s house. It is alleged that this part was built without permission. That portion was not mentioned in the original design of the house.
The Kolkata Municipal Corporation inspected the construction at Sandip Ghosh’s house. The corporation had issued a notice to the house a few years ago. This time, it was asked to demolish a specific part. The demolition work must be completed within the next 45 days.
Sandip Ghosh is serving a jail sentence in a case of financial corruption at RG Kar Hospital. He was arrested by the CBI. The municipal corporation’s notification stated that three parts of Sandip Ghosh’s house at Badan Roy Lane in Belghata were built without permission. One of them must be demolished.
Sandip Ghosh and Sangeeta Ghosh are accused of violating sections 133 and 134 of the Building Rules 2009 at 83, Badan Roy Lane. The municipal corporation investigated based on a complaint from a government member and took action.
Sandip Ghosh received a notice from the corporation
On October 30, 2024, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation sent a notice to Sandip Ghosh’s house. Corporation officials also visited his home. The notice stated that a covering built on the roof of Sandip Ghosh’s house over an area of 5.425 square meters was declared illegal. The height of this part is 2.05 meters. This construction was done without permission.
Additionally, an iron spiral staircase has been installed on the roof to access a specific machine room. A new brick wall has been built in front of the door on the third floor. These parts are also unauthorized. There was no mention of that extra part in the original design. Both the homeowner and the complainant were present at the hearing held by the municipal corporation regarding this matter.
45 days given
The owner agreed to remove that part within two months. After that, the municipal corporation ordered that the part be demolished within 45 days. If anyone objects to this order, they can file a new complaint with the municipal corporation. Sandip Ghosh was the superintendent of the hospital at the time of the rape and murder of the on-duty doctor. His role in the entire incident was also questioned.
Amid the controversy, Sandip Ghosh resigned. Later, his name came up in separate cases of rape-murder and financial corruption at the hospital. He was arrested by the CBI in both cases. Later, he got bail in the rape-murder case, but he is still in jail in the financial corruption case.
