New York, Japan’s Naomi Osaka reached the third round of the US Open for the first time since 2021, defeating Hailey Baptiste 6-3, 6-1. Osaka has won her four Grand Slam titles on hard courts, including two US Opens and two Australian Opens. She last won the title here in 2020, after which she was eliminated in the third round in 2021, the first round in 2022, and the second round in 2024.
After being eliminated in the third round at Wimbledon this year, Osaka decided to part ways with coach Patrick Mouratoglou and is now working with new coach Tomasz Wiktorowski, who has previously been part of Iga Świątek’s team. Meanwhile, fourteen-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams won a US Open women’s doubles match for the first time in the last 14 years without her younger sister Serena.
