Hyderabad, food safety officials of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation conducted a food safety training and certification program for street food vendors operating in the GHMC area, training approximately 180 vendors.

According to official information, the training program was organized under the Food Safety and Standards Act in collaboration with the Urban Community Development (UCD) branch of GHMC, Nestle India, and the National Association of Street Vendors of India. The main objective of the program is to create a better environment for self-compliance with the Food Safety Act, bring about behavioral change among street food vendors, and develop awareness about food safety.

During the training, vendors were informed about cleanliness and hygiene standards under Schedule-4 of the Licensing and Registration of Food Business Regulations, 2011, under food safety. 180 street food vendors enthusiastically participated in the program, including 80 on May 12 and 100 on May 13. Participants were given training related to food safety and hygiene. All participants were provided with certificates valid for two years.

In addition, all vendors were distributed hygiene kits, which included hairnets, gloves, aprons, and three types of cloths for cleaning and personal use. GHMC officials said that a training program will also be held on May 14. Under this, approximately 300 street food vendors will be provided training related to food safety and hygiene.
