Solo (Indonesia): Emerging shuttlers Tanvi Sharma and Vennela Kalagotla ended their impressive campaign by winning bronze medals in the individual events at the Badminton Asia Junior Championships here on Saturday.
This is the first time in the tournament’s history that two Indian players have won medals in the individual category.
Vennela put up a tough fight against China’s Liu Si Ya but ultimately lost the 37-minute match 15-21, 18-21.
The Indian player trailed 15-20 in the second game but saved three match points to spark hopes of a comeback, only to make a mistake that Liu capitalized on to seal the game.
In another match, second-seeded Tanvi Sharma faced a 13-21, 14-21 defeat against China’s eighth-seeded Yin Yi Qing in 35 minutes.
After losing the first game, Tanvi staged a comeback in the second game, taking a 6-1 lead. However, Yin leveled the score at 8-8 before pulling ahead to secure victory.
This was yet another impressive performance for Tanvi, who was the runner-up at last month’s US Open Super 300 tournament.
