Health Minister Inspects, Orders Completion of All Cleaning Work Before Monsoon
Surat. In view of the upcoming monsoon, the Surat Municipal Corporation has launched a campaign for pre-monsoon preparations and creek cleaning on a war footing.
Every year during the monsoon, waterlogging and creek flooding occur in many low-lying areas of the city. To address this challenge, the administration is making extensive preparations. In this context, the Health Minister of Gujarat conducted a visit to various areas to review the ongoing work.
The Minister visited the Bhagwati Society in the Puna area, accompanied by officials and senior officers of the Surat Municipal Corporation, where creek cleaning work is underway.
During the inspection, the Mayor of Surat, councilors, and local organization representatives were also present. Detailed discussions were held with officials regarding the geographical conditions of the area and the challenges expected during the monsoon.
This year, the Municipal Corporation has started using modern technology to make creek cleaning more effective. In the Bhagwati Society area, cleaning is being carried out with the help of an ‘amphibious excavator’ machine.
This specialized machine can operate both in water and on land, and it is removing accumulated waste, plastic, silt, and shrubs from the creek to enhance drainage capacity.
During the inspection, the Minister inquired about the progress of the work from officials and directed that all necessary tasks be completed before the monsoon begins.
He stated that effective planning and action must be taken now to ensure that citizens living in low-lying areas do not face issues like waterlogging, dirt, and foul odors.
The Minister clearly stated that pre-monsoon work is directly linked to the convenience and health of citizens, so no negligence in the quality of work will be tolerated. He instructed that the cleaning of drains, creeks, and drainage lines be completed within the stipulated timeframe.
The Municipal Corporation has identified waterlogging-affected areas such as Varachha, Puna, Limbayat, and Udhna as hotspots. The administration says these areas are under special surveillance.
Additionally, flood control rooms, dewatering pumping stations, and emergency relief teams are being kept ready to handle potential situations during the monsoon.
The municipal administration claims that these timely efforts will significantly relieve city residents from problems like waterlogging and creek flooding during this year’s monsoon.
