Chandigarh: Haryana’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Ram Kumar Gautam has demanded a law making parental approval mandatory before marriage. The Safidon MLA stated during the zero hour in the Haryana Legislative Assembly on Tuesday that this is necessary given the current situation.

Gautam said, “Boys and girls elope… There have been cases where parents are later forced to commit suicide. I request the government to create a law that makes parental approval mandatory for boys and girls before marriage.”

Gautam also raised the issue of land collector rates and said that there is a significant difference between these rates and market rates in some places. He stated, “Wherever there is a big difference, it should be eliminated. This will also curb corruption.”

When his speaking time during the zero hour ended, Assembly Speaker Harbinder Kalyan asked him to take his seat. However, Gautam insisted on continuing to speak and the Speaker stopped him. Kalyan said, “If you wish to say anything else on this, you may give notice, I will decide accordingly.”
