Surat. The common people have received another shock in times of rising prices. Sumul Dairy has announced an increase in milk prices. The new rates will be effective from Tuesday, May 19, 2026. Earlier, Amul had also increased milk prices.
Sumul Dairy has increased milk prices by up to two rupees per liter. According to dairy management, the costs of transportation, packaging materials, diesel, and other inputs have been continuously rising over the past few years, significantly increasing the processing and distribution costs of milk. This has necessitated the price revision.
Before Sumul, Amul Dairy, which is under the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), had also implemented a price increase for milk from May 14, 2026. Amul had raised prices by 1 to 4 rupees per liter on various categories of milk.
Amul’s “Tea Special” milk saw an increase of 3 rupees per liter pack, while buffalo milk saw a 2 rupee increase per 500 ml pack. Following this, the price of Amul buffalo milk has reached 78 rupees per liter.
With two major cooperative dairies in the state increasing milk prices within the same week, it is expected to impact the household budgets of ordinary families, especially homemakers. The effect of rising milk prices may also be seen in the coming days on the prices of tea, coffee, and other dairy products.
