The Maharashtra government has made an important decision to promote electric vehicles in the state. The Transport Minister announced that the state government has decided to exempt electric vehicles from toll tax at some major toll plazas, including Atal Setu, Mumbai-Pune Expressway, and Samruddhi Mahamarg. This new system is effective from midnight on 22 August.

This decision was made under the guidance of the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Ministers. The government’s aim is to encourage the use of electric vehicles in the state and promote environmentally friendly transportation.

According to information received, the government has issued a notification in this regard, which has been implemented under the Motor Vehicles Tax Act, 1958. Accordingly, electric vehicles will be exempted from toll tax on certain specific routes and toll plazas.

The exemption benefit will be available to electric four-wheeled vehicles (M2, M3, M6 category) and electric buses. This includes buses operated under the State Transport Undertaking (STU) and private electric buses.

The Transport Minister stated that this initiative will not only encourage electric vehicles but is also a positive step towards reducing pollution and promoting the use of clean energy in the state.

According to the minister, this policy will encourage more people to adopt electric vehicles and contribute to leading the state toward green and sustainable development. The toll exemption will also provide economic relief to EV owners, which could accelerate the popularity of EVs. The minister believes this step is considered a strong initiative toward making Maharashtra one of the leading electric vehicle-friendly states in the country.
