Supreme Court to Hear Case on Preventing Misuse of Women-Centric Laws

New Delhi, February 3. The Supreme Court will hear a petition related to women-centric laws today. The petition alleges misuse of these laws and also demands that men be given protection. The case is listed before the bench of Justice B.R. Gavai and Justice K. Vinod Chandran.

The petition has been filed by an individual. It questions the validity of provisions related to dowry prohibition, protection of women from domestic violence, and cruelty towards women in the Indian Penal Code.

The demands made in the petition include:

  • Highlighting malevolence, irrationality, and lack of equality in the imposed legal provisions.
  • Protection for men from atrocities due to false complaints by women and misuse of laws.
  • The Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961 discriminates based on religion. Provisions of the Domestic Violence Act, 2005 are women-centric and against men.
