The Ministry of Women and Social Affairs has announced the establishment of a supportive environment to ensure the participation of all segments of society in Ethiopia’s upcoming seventh general elections.
According to the schedule set by the National Election Board of Ethiopia, the elections will be held on June 1, 2026.
The State Minister for Women and Social Affairs, Huriya Ali, stated that special conditions have been put in place to ensure the political participation of women, youth, and people with disabilities throughout the electoral process.
Huriya explained: “Efforts have been made to make polling stations accessible for people with disabilities and to encourage the active participation of all community groups.”
She emphasized that the record number of registered voters shows a growing public commitment to the country’s national political agenda.
According to the State Minister, the elections guarantee citizens’ constitutional rights to vote and stand for office, and promote equal opportunities for everyone.
The 47 competing political parties are currently presenting their alternative political programs to the public through various media outlets.
Huriya concluded her remarks by urging the public to turn out in large numbers on election day, noting that active citizen participation is essential to ensure a free, fair, and democratic outcome.
She called on voters to confidently cast their ballots for the political party they believe is best suited to serve the country’s future.
