
Ethiopia will continue to strengthen its efforts to enhance regional energy interconnection, stated the CEO of Ethiopian Electric Power.
He explained that work is progressing rapidly on projects that ensure Ethiopia’s development and prosperity.
It was noted that Ethiopia places special emphasis on developing renewable energy.
He added that over the past years, three major projects, including the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, have been completed and become operational.
Ethiopia’s intensive efforts in renewable energy development have enabled it to be among the leading countries in this sector.
It was also clarified that the electricity generated by Ethiopia comes entirely from renewable and clean energy sources.
It was further confirmed that Ethiopia is at the forefront of the regional energy interconnection initiative in East Africa and will continue to strengthen its efforts to improve regional energy connectivity.
It was also revealed that in addition to Djibouti, Sudan, and Kenya, which Ethiopia supplies with power, efforts are underway to sell electricity to Tanzania.
Furthermore, studies are being conducted for energy interconnection with other countries.
It was explained that Ethiopia exports less than ten percent of its energy abroad.
Therefore, intensive efforts are being made to prioritize renewable energy by integrating domestic and foreign energy sources.
Work is underway on the Koysha power generation project, which has immense generating capacity, and efforts are being made to complete and operate it quickly.
Additionally, work is underway on 16 power transmission and distribution station projects.
