Police have arrested two women involved in a fraudulent rental property scheme in Jatisampurna, Bekasi City, West Java. The victims suffered losses amounting to Rp 4.1 billion.

“The two suspects, identified as K (48) and UY (54), became acquainted in 2023,” said a police spokesperson.

Authorities confirmed that a total of 77 people fell victim to the scam, with losses reaching Rp 4.1 billion.

“So far, 77 victims have been identified, with 28 having filed police reports. The total estimated losses amount to Rp 4,155,000,000,” the spokesperson added.

The case began between 2023 and 2025 when suspect UY advertised four rental units and a plot of land at low prices on social media. The properties were located in Jakasampurna.

“Interested buyers were introduced by UY to suspect K at the location. K then presented a land certificate (Girik Letter C No. 1142, Plot D1) under the name of an individual referred to as ‘A,’ which convinced the victims to proceed with the purchase,” the spokesperson explained.

After reaching an agreement, the victims handed over money to K. The suspects promised to provide sale and purchase deeds within a month of the transaction.

“However, the documents were never issued, and the suspects repeatedly delayed until it was discovered that the properties had been sold to multiple buyers,” the spokesperson said.

Both suspects have been charged and detained. They face charges under Article 378 and/or Article 372 in conjunction with Article 65 of the Criminal Code, carrying a maximum penalty of four years in prison.
