Approved by the State Council, the third week of September has been designated as the National Promotion of Putonghua Week since 1998. This year, from September 15 to September 21, marks the 28th National Promotion of Putonghua Week, with the theme “Strengthening the Promotion of the National Common Language and Writing to Foster a Strong Sense of Community for the Chinese Nation.”

During the promotion week, the Ministry of Education and the National Language Commission will lead the organization of key national events; carry out the “Dianyao Zhonghua” themed reading campaign, host brand activities such as the Chinese Classics Recitation, Writing, and Lecture Competition, and National Campus Festival Recitations; organize the establishment of the first batch of national demonstration characteristic schools (for language and writing application); and conduct activities including the “Letters Forging Unity, Pomegranate Blossoms” letter collection, “Promoting Putonghua to Assist Rural Revitalization” university student social practice volunteer services, and promotional campaigns through integrated media.

The Central Propaganda Department encourages central media to actively promote the achievements in the popularization of the national common language and writing and to report on grassroots promotion models. The National Ethnic Affairs Commission organizes ethnic affairs systems nationwide to carry out themed promotional activities on “Promoting the National Common Language and Writing to Foster a Strong Sense of Community for the Chinese Nation.”

The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security guides various regions to actively carry out “Putonghua + Vocational Skills” promotional activities.

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism utilizes public libraries, cultural venues, museums, and other “window” and tourist sites at all levels to conduct promotional and educational activities such as classic recitations, language and writing exhibitions, nationwide reading campaigns, and Putonghua guided tour services.

The National Radio and Television Administration plays an industry-leading role by organizing radio, television media, and online audiovisual platforms at all levels to actively conduct concentrated promotions during the promotion week.

The Central Military Commission Training Management Department organizes Putonghua training for new recruits and “military-civilian joint” promotion activities, focusing on enhancing Putonghua education and language combat effectiveness in the military.

The Central Committee of the Communist Youth League organizes young students nationwide to actively participate in activities such as “Promoting Putonghua to Assist Rural Revitalization” social practice volunteer services and “Hand in Hand with Putonghua, Youth in Action” youth volunteer promotions in communities.
