The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda continues to spread, reaching multiple cities. The World Health Organization has allocated an additional $3.4 million from its emergency contingency fund.

The United Nations World Food Programme has warned that if access restrictions are not overcome and aid cannot be expanded, the Ebola outbreak could further worsen local food insecurity.

Currently, 26.5 million people in the DRC face severe food insecurity. In the eastern region of the DRC, where the Ebola outbreak is severe, nearly 10 million people are in crisis or emergency levels of hunger.

Suspected Ebola cases in the DRC have risen to 543.
