The 2025 Cup of China World Figure Skating Grand Prix concluded successfully in Chongqing. Chinese figure skaters met the challenges with positive competitive spirit, demonstrating relentless determination and growth on the ice, presenting audiences with multiple spectacular performances.
In the ice dance free dance competition, three Chinese pairs took to the ice. Wang Shiyue and Liu Xinyu performed their “Batman” program, achieving good levels on technical elements including twizzles and dance spins. They scored 103.03 points in the free dance, finishing seventh overall with a total score of 165.71 points.
After the competition, the pair expressed satisfaction with their performance and condition, though acknowledged room for improvement in program completion. Their years of competition experience have given them clear self-awareness, and they plan to refine program details through further training. Ren Junfei and Xing Jianing delivered a stable free dance performance, scoring 93.43 points and placing eighth overall with 153.17 points. Xiao Zixi and He Linghao scored 85.31 points in the free dance, finishing ninth with a total of 143.92 points. Both pairs gained valuable major competition experience.

In women’s singles, young Chinese skater Zhang Ruiyang delivered an impressive performance. She maintained stability in her free skate, achieving the highest levels in spins and footwork. Not only did she set a new personal best of 117.83 points in the free skate, but she also placed seventh overall with 179.54 points. Zhang expressed satisfaction with the competition results, feeling her hard training had paid off while accumulating important major competition experience.
She mentioned adjusting her jump layout to ensure completion of the free skate program, and plans to focus on increasing difficulty and improving stability in future training. Another Chinese skater, Zhu Yi, made errors in her jumps during the first half of the free skate but adjusted well, ultimately scoring 99.27 points in the free skate and placing 11th overall with 162.66 points, demonstrating strong resilience under pressure.

In men’s singles, Chinese skater Jin Boyang opened with a quad toe loop-double toe loop combination and adjusted his program layout according to his condition, successfully completing his performance. He scored 146.19 points in the free skate, finishing fifth overall with 232.81 points.

After the competition, Jin Boyang analyzed that having been away from competition for some time affected his competitive readiness, and acknowledged issues with energy distribution during the free skate. However, he expressed satisfaction with his mental approach during the performance, considering it fundamentally sound despite some flaws. He will continue adjusting preparations for the next Grand Prix event. Dai David, who ranked 12th in the short program, showed improved form in the free skate, scoring 135.72 points and placing 11th overall with 197.54 points. Peng Zhiming scored 117.11 points in the free skate, finishing with 184.52 points total. Both skaters demonstrated positive competitive spirit.
