To accurately address the public transportation needs of the elderly, on April 24, Chongqing Public Transport Investment Group’s Western Branch organized volunteer party members to visit Fengyang Community in Dadukou District. They conducted a special survey on community operation services in key public transport areas, continuously improving measures to respect and assist the elderly, ensuring their safe and convenient travel.

Fengyang Community has a high proportion of elderly residents, with concentrated travel needs and high demands for convenient and safe bus services.

Given this characteristic, the Sixth Division of the Western Bus Branch focused on developing the Route 450, a line dedicated to respecting and assisting the elderly, which passes through this community. This special survey aimed to address the urgent concerns of elderly travelers. Through face-to-face communication and questionnaires, they collected suggestions from elderly passengers on route optimization, stop placement, service frequency, and barrier-free travel, precisely targeting the core travel needs of the elderly.

It was noted that Route 450 now uses vehicles with one-step low-entry floors, ensuring safety when boarding and alighting. While maintaining safety, the gap between the bus and the platform is kept within 30 centimeters, allowing elderly passengers to easily step on and off the bus.

In response to suggestions from elderly residents during the survey, such as having no seating at stops for waiting, the Sixth Division of the Western Bus Branch immediately responded by planning to upgrade the aging-friendly facilities at the starting stop of Route 450, adding priority seats.

At the survey site, volunteers also explained bus safety, barrier-free boarding, and civilized travel knowledge in simple language, tailored to the travel characteristics of the elderly, highlighting precautions for taking the bus.

A representative from the Sixth Division of the Western Bus Branch stated that in the next step, they will carefully review the collected suggestions, continuously optimize aging-friendly bus services, regularly carry out volunteer services to respect and assist the elderly, and improve aging-friendly facilities and service quality to make travel more convenient for elderly passengers.
