PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Operational Area (Daop) 8 Surabaya recorded positive performance in freight transport services during the January to September 2025 period. Total freight volume reached 2,083,929 tons, exceeding the program target of 2,060,529 tons, representing 1.13 percent growth above target.

This achievement demonstrates KAI’s consistency in strengthening the role of rail-based transportation as the backbone of national logistics. «This positive performance shows KAI’s commitment to providing reliable, efficient, and timely freight services,» the spokesperson stated.

Freight transport growth in the Daop 8 region is supported by increased trip frequency, service route optimization, and efficient use of wagons in train sets. Delivery timeliness and increased customer demand have also been key driving factors.

Rail-based transportation has advantages in terms of efficiency and timeliness, as it is unaffected by traffic congestion and has fixed delivery schedules. Additionally, KAI implements high security standards with escort systems, inspections at stopping points, and strict SOPs to ensure delivery reliability and safety.

Currently, KAI Daop 8 Surabaya’s freight services reach dozens of cities and regencies across Java Island, connecting industrial areas with ports, economic centers, and national distribution hubs.

«The rail-based logistics ecosystem plays a crucial role in bringing producers closer to consumers, driving regional economic growth, while strengthening the national supply chain,» the spokesperson noted.

Besides being efficient, railway transportation also serves as an environmentally friendly solution, producing significantly lower carbon emissions compared to road transportation. This effort aligns with the government’s commitment toward 2060 targets and green economy development in the transportation sector.

«Railways are now not just passenger transportation means, but also crucial nodes in the national logistics distribution chain,» the spokesperson concluded.
