Tunisia – Indonesia’s support for Palestine once again resonated on the international stage as a representative of Aqsa Working Group (AWG) delivered a speech during the Global Sumud Flotilla solidarity action at Masroh Al-Baladi, downtown Tunisia on August 31, 2025.

A press release stated that the representative emphasized the Indonesian people’s stance to fully support the Global Sumud Flotilla which will sail to break through the Gaza blockade on September 4 and is estimated to arrive in Gaza around September 14-15, 2025.

“We are from Indonesia. We came here to support the Global Sumud Flotilla in opening the Gaza blockade. May Allah facilitate our departure so that humanitarian aid can directly reach the people of Gaza,” said the representative loudly.

The speech received an enthusiastic response from action participants. When he mentioned coming from Indonesia, participants immediately applauded and showed extraordinary enthusiasm. He also led the chant “Al-Aqsa Haqquna!” which was answered loudly by thousands of voices, affirming Muslims’ rights to Al-Aqsa Mosque.

After stepping down from the podium, the representative was immediately surrounded by activists from Tunisia, Morocco, and Qatar. They shook hands, hugged, and expressed respect for the presence of the Indonesian delegation through AWG. The warm welcome from these activists proved the strong cross-national solidarity in the effort to fight for Palestinian independence.

Activists from various countries called for an end to the genocide in Gaza and urged the opening of the illegal blockade imposed by Israel since 2007, which has worsened since the brutal aggression on October 7, 2023.

The Global Sumud Flotilla itself consists of more than 70 ships, ranging from large passenger ships to fishing boats. The fleet departed from Spain on August 31, followed by departures from Tunisia and various other ports on September 4, 2025.

Participation comes from 44 countries across six continents with over 6,000 activists including from Indonesia, Malaysia, US, Brazil, Italy, Morocco, Sri Lanka, Tunisia, Netherlands, Colombia, and dozens of other countries. This flotilla is a collaboration of four major coalitions: Maghreb Sumud Flotilla, Global Movement to Gaza, Freedom Flotilla Coalition, and Sumud Nusantara.

The word “Sumud” comes from Arabic meaning steadfastness, a concept deeply rooted in the Palestinian people’s struggle. Through the Global Sumud Flotilla, the steadfastness of the Gaza people is connected with global solidarity across countries, races, and religions.

It was mentioned that AWG’s presence by sending its four best volunteers to the Global Sumud Flotilla further strengthens Indonesia’s position at the forefront of international solidarity for Palestinian Independence.

AWG is an institution formed to accommodate and manage Muslim efforts for the liberation of Al-Aqsa Mosque and assist the struggle for Palestinian independence. AWG was established by Muslim components at the International Al-Aqsa Conference held in Wisma Antara Jakarta on August 21, 2008.
