Bandung

Hundreds of student demonstrators began arriving at the West Java Regional Legislative Council (DPRD) Building on Diponegoro Street, Bandung City, on Monday afternoon. The crowd, consisting of various student groups, arrived while bringing a number of demands.

At 2:25 PM local time, the demonstrators arrived on foot from the direction of Pusdai Mosque. They carried many banners containing demands and criticisms, such as “DPR (People’s Betrayal Council),” “Indonesia in a Democracy Emergency,” and others.

Upon arriving in front of the West Java DPRD Building, the crowd immediately began burning used tires and holding speeches. In their speeches, they conveyed a number of complaints, concerns, and demands regarding what is currently happening in the country.

Interestingly, during the speech, one speaker delivered a message of peace to the crowd. The speaker asked the crowd to demonstrate in an orderly, peaceful, and non-anarchic manner.

“Do not be anarchic, do not let there be provocateurs,” said the speaker, met with loud applause from the student crowd.

He also urged the crowd to look after one another. He stated that there are parents waiting at home and that everyone must return home in healthy condition.

“Take care of Bandung City, your parents are still waiting for you at home,” he said.

Meanwhile, security forces were seen standing guard around the protest location. The gate of the West Java DPRD Building was closed, covered by a large white banner displaying demands and several photos of officials.

Traffic flow was diverted; vehicles intending to pass by the West Java DPRD Building were redirected to Cilamaya Street.
