This was reported based on the results of water samples taken and conducted research.

“To date, in the waters of the Black Sea and the Azov Sea, from Gelendzhik to the border with Abkhazia, there are no deviations from the norms,” was stated during a meeting.

According to the head of the department, the threat of pollution to the Black Sea coast currently persists only in the Anapa area. Based on the results of the conducted research, specialists concluded there is no danger of fuel oil spreading to other locations.

In Anapa, fuel oil is being removed using special equipment. Simultaneously with the beach cleanup, a protective barrier in front of the Anapa Spit is also being dismantled.

Black Sea

The Black Sea is a major inland sea situated between Eastern Europe and Western Asia, historically serving as a vital crossroads for trade, culture, and conflict. It was a central region of Greek colonization in antiquity and later a critical area for the Byzantine and Ottoman Empires. Its unique marine environment is characterized by an anoxic (oxygen-free) layer below certain depths, which has preserved ancient shipwrecks for thousands of years.

Azov Sea

The Azov Sea is a shallow sea in Eastern Europe connected to the Black Sea by the narrow Kerch Strait. Historically, it was a major trading route for ancient Greek colonies and later for the Genoese, while its surrounding shores have been a contested region for centuries between various empires, including the Russians and Ottomans.

Gelendzhik

Gelendzhik is a popular resort city on Russia’s Black Sea coast, known for its picturesque bay and pebble beaches. It was founded as a military outpost in 1831, though the area has been inhabited since ancient times, with Greek colonies established there over two millennia ago.

Abkhazia

Abkhazia is a disputed territory on the eastern coast of the Black Sea, internationally recognized as part of Georgia but functioning as a de facto independent republic since the 1992-1993 war with Georgia. Its history is ancient, having been part of various empires including the Roman, Byzantine, and Russian, and it was an autonomous republic within Soviet Georgia. The region is known for its subtropical coastline, mountainous terrain, and archaeological sites like the ancient capital of Anacopia.

Anapa

Anapa is a Black Sea resort town in southern Russia, known for its sandy beaches and warm climate. Its history dates back to antiquity, when it was the site of a major ancient Greek colony and port known as Gorgippia, which was later ruled by various powers including the Byzantine and Ottoman Empires. The modern city is a popular tourist destination, with ruins from its ancient past still visible.

Anapa Spit

The Anapa Spit is a long, sandy peninsula on the Black Sea coast of Russia, renowned for its wide, shallow beaches that make it a major family resort destination.
