On August 20, it was learned at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport that starting today, some China Southern Airlines flights from Guangzhou to Shanghai Hongqiao will continue to eliminate check-in cutoff times, enabling “last-minute boarding.”

On July 8 this year, China Southern Airlines flights between Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport and Beijing Daxing International Airport fully eliminated check-in cutoff times and introduced the “last-minute boarding” service, reducing the restrictions on passengers caused by traditional check-in counters closing 30 to 40 minutes in advance. Starting today (August 20), the scope of this measure has been further expanded, continuing to implement the “last-minute boarding” service on China Southern Airlines round-trip flights from Guangzhou to Shanghai Hongqiao. Passengers without checked luggage only need to complete security checks and arrive at the boarding gate before it closes (i.e., 15 minutes before the scheduled departure time) to board the flight.

Currently, there are a total of 10 daily round-trip China Southern Airlines flights between Guangzhou and Shanghai Hongqiao, all of which are piloting the “last-minute boarding” service. Relevant officials stated that the proportion of business travelers on the Guangzhou to Shanghai Hongqiao route is relatively high. Choosing to launch the “last-minute boarding” service on this route can benefit a wider range of passengers, providing convenience for groups such as those with last-minute schedule changes, sudden business trips, early/late flight rushes, and frequent business travelers.

It is important to note that the “last-minute boarding” service currently does not apply to passengers who need to check luggage. For passengers with checked luggage, the checked baggage cutoff time remains 30 minutes before departure.

Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport

Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN) is the major aviation hub of Southern China, serving the city of Guangzhou. It was originally opened in the 1930s, but its current massive terminal complex became operational in 2004, replacing the older airport of the same name. It is a primary gateway for travelers to the Pearl River Delta region and a major cargo hub.

Shanghai Hongqiao

Shanghai Hongqiao is a major transportation hub and urban area in western Shanghai, historically known for its old airport. The area has been dramatically redeveloped, most notably with the construction of the massive Hongqiao Railway Station and the modern Hongqiao International Airport terminal, forming one of the world’s largest integrated transport complexes.

Beijing Daxing International Airport

Beijing Daxing International Airport is a major new aviation hub in the Chinese capital, opened in September 2019 to relieve congestion at the existing Beijing Capital International Airport. Designed by the late architect Zaha Hadid, its starfish-shaped terminal is one of the world’s largest single-building airports and represents a significant modern infrastructure achievement.
