Chongqing Holds Wreath-Laying Ceremony to Pay Tribute to Heroes and Martyrs
On the morning of September 30th, a solemn wreath-laying ceremony was held at Geleshan Martyrs’ Cemetery, attended by representatives from all sectors of society.
At the foot of Geleshan Mountain, the Martyrs’ Cemetery stood solemn and dignified, with the Red Rock Martyrs Sculpture towering high. Representatives from all sectors of society arrived at the martyrs’ tomb with flowers, standing in solemn silence with great reverence.
At approximately 9:20 AM, the ceremony began. Accompanied by the powerful and resounding melody of the “March of the Volunteers,” the entire assembly sang the national anthem of the People’s Republic of China in unison. Following this, everyone stood in silent tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the Chinese people’s liberation cause and the construction of the republic. After the moment of silence, Young Pioneers faced the martyrs’ tomb and sang “We Are the Successors of Communism.”
At the ceremony site, nine wreaths were displayed, presented in the name of various municipal committees, government bodies, military units, democratic parties, organizations, veterans, and youth groups. The words “Eternal Glory to the Martyrs” were prominently displayed on the red ribbons of the wreaths.
As the military band played the solemn “Flower Presentation March,” 18 honor guards steadily lifted the wreaths and marched in precise steps to place them neatly in front of the martyrs’ tomb. Attendees approached the wreaths, paused in contemplation, straightened the ribbons, and then joined representatives from all sectors of society in walking around the martyrs’ tomb to present flowers, expressing deep remembrance and supreme respect for the revolutionary martyrs.
The ceremony was attended by municipal committee members, city leadership representatives, principal officials from Chongqing Garrison and Armed Police Force, representatives from relevant districts and municipal departments, leaders from democratic parties and organizations, and representatives from various sectors of society including military personnel.
