According to the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Bashkortostan, a 36-year-old woman from Ufa who consumed homemade alcohol went blind and was in extremely critical condition.

Experts confirmed methanol poisoning in the woman. Her death was reported on August 11.

Initial reports indicated that five people were poisoned, with several fatalities, after consuming chacha purchased at a market in Sirius.

Law enforcement authorities revealed that homemade alcohol was being sold at the “Kazachy” market by two women, aged 71 and 30, from Sochi. They sold the liquor under the guise of homemade wine and chacha, knowing it did not meet safety standards. At least 14 people were poisoned by this alcohol, with preliminary reports suggesting at least 10 fatalities. A criminal case has been opened against the women, who have been detained until October 4.
