On the afternoon of the 6th, a 58-year-old man who was fishing for ayu (sweetfish) in the Nagara River in Mino City, Gifu Prefecture, was swept away and died.
Around 1:30 p.m. on the 6th, a fire department received a report that a man dressed like an angler had been swept away in the river approximately 400 meters downstream from the “Mino Bridge” spanning the Nagara River in Mino City, Gifu Prefecture.
Firefighters who arrived at the scene discovered the man 1.8 kilometers downstream from the reported location and transported him to a hospital, but his death was confirmed.
The cause of death was drowning.
According to the police, the deceased was Hideaki Kawabata (58), a company employee from Soka City, Saitama Prefecture. Kawabata was believed to have been fishing for ayu alone.
The area where he was swept away had a water depth of about 1 meter and the current was said to be gentle.
