Chongqing, June 6 (Xinhua) — The Chongqing Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters decided to activate a Level IV flood emergency response for 34 districts and counties at 4 p.m. on the 6th, according to the Chongqing Emergency Management Bureau.
The Chongqing Meteorological Defense Committee (Chongqing Meteorological Bureau) issued a heavy rain Level IV warning on the 5th in the “Important Meteorological Information Report,” predicting heavy to torrential rain in central, western, and southeastern parts of Chongqing from early morning to night on the 7th, with localized extreme rainstorms. The cumulative rainfall in central, western, and southeastern areas is expected to be 50 to 90 millimeters, with localized amounts of 120 to 160 millimeters, while other areas will see 20 to 40 millimeters. The maximum hourly rainfall is forecast to be 40 to 60 millimeters. Thirteen districts and counties, including Changshou District, Beibei District, Nan’an District, Banan District, Liangjiang New Area, Wansheng Economic Development Zone, Fuling District, Qijiang District, Jiangjin District, Dianjiang County, Nanchuan District, Youyang Tujia Autonomous County, and Xiushan Tujia Autonomous County, face a high risk of rainstorm disasters. Another 21 districts and counties, including Dadukou District, Jiulongpo District, Yuzhong District, Shapingba District, Western Science City Chongqing High-tech Zone, Hechuan District, Rongchang District, Yongchuan District, Dazu District, Tongnan District, Bishan District, Tongliang District, Fengdu County, Zhong County, Liangping District, Wanzhou District, Kaizhou District, Qianjiang District, Wulong District, Pengshui Miao and Tujia Autonomous County, and Shizhu Tujia Autonomous County, face a relatively high risk of rainstorm disasters.
The National Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters activated a Level IV flood emergency response for Chongqing and other provinces and cities on the 6th. The Chongqing Drainage and Flood Prevention Committee (Chongqing Housing and Urban-Rural Construction Committee) activated a Level III urban waterlogging disaster defense response for 10 districts and counties and a Level IV urban waterlogging disaster defense response for 24 districts and counties at 1 p.m. on the 6th. The Chongqing Water Resources Bureau activated a Level IV defense response for 34 districts and counties at 4 p.m. on the 6th.
