Persib Bandung and Borneo FC Samarinda have officially learned their competition map in the Shopee Cup 2026/27 after the group stage draw was announced.

The two Indonesian representatives are placed in different groups. Persib is in Group B, which includes several strong Southeast Asian clubs, while Borneo FC Samarinda will compete in Group A.

Persib earned their spot in the Shopee Cup as champions of the BRI Super League 2025/26. Meanwhile, Borneo FC qualified after finishing the season as runners-up in Indonesia’s top-tier competition.

Based on the draw results, Persib will face Port FC (Thailand), Johor Darul Ta’zim (Malaysia), Lion City Sailors (Singapore), Cong An Ha Noi FC (Vietnam), PKR Svay Rieng FC (Cambodia), and the winner of Playoff 2 in Group B.

This group is predicted to be a tough test for the Maung Bandung squad. The presence of Johor Darul Ta’zim, which has dominated Malaysian competition in recent seasons, makes Group B’s competition expected to be intense.

Additionally, Port FC and Lion City Sailors are teams with experience competing at the Asian level.

On the other hand, Borneo FC Samarinda is placed in Group A alongside Buriram United, Ratchaburi FC, Kuching City FC, Tampines Rovers FC, the Vietnam Cup winner, and the winner of Playoff 1.

Buriram United is the most notable opponent in Group A. The Thai club is known as one of the biggest powers in Southeast Asia and often performs competitively in various Asian club tournaments.

Although in different groups, both Persib and Borneo FC carry Indonesia’s hopes to make a significant impact in this regional competition. The participation of both clubs also provides an opportunity to measure the quality of Indonesian clubs when facing champions and top teams from ASEAN countries.

The draw results also open the possibility of a clash between Indonesian representatives if Persib and Borneo FC advance to the knockout stages.
