Medan. North Sumatra Governor Bobby Nasution is pushing for the acceleration of the legalization of community oil wells as part of efforts to support the national energy self-sufficiency program. In Langkat Regency alone, there are 607 verified community oil wells that have the potential to contribute to increasing national energy production.

This was conveyed by North Sumatra Governor Bobby Nasution during a hearing with the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas) Sumbagut at the Governor’s Official Residence, Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Medan City, Thursday (4/6/2026).

According to North Sumatra Governor Bobby Nasution, the implementation of Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation Number 14 of 2025 is an important step in organizing and managing community oil wells professionally while providing legal certainty for the community.

“This is something we know, the goal is to achieve the President’s vision of energy self-sufficiency to meet the target of 610 thousand barrels per day, one of which involves local communities,” said Bobby.

So far, the existence of community oil wells has often been considered detrimental to the state because they lacked a clear legal framework. However, through the implementation of Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation Number 14 of 2025, these activities now have a strong legal basis.

“We, as the regional government through Regional-Owned Enterprises, are asked to accommodate the output from community wells, therefore the acceleration of the President’s vision must be realized immediately,” said Bobby.

Bobby emphasized that the North Sumatra Provincial Government is ready to fully support the acceleration of legalization and management of community oil wells through collaboration among all stakeholders.

“We from the North Sumatra Provincial Government are enthusiastic about continuing to synergize. We from the Regional Government will certainly support and want to be part of this achievement. Therefore, whatever issues and problems arise in North Sumatra, let us collaborate together to accelerate the resolution of problems on the ground,” he said.

Meanwhile, Langkat Regent Syah Afandin hopes that the legalization process can be realized soon. According to him, community oil wells are a huge potential that can provide economic benefits for the region. “Actually, this is regional potential, such as employment, Regional Original Revenue, and others,” said Syah Afandin.

Head of the SKK Migas Sumbagut Representative Sebastian Julius said that his party continues to encourage the acceleration of the implementation of this policy. He also appreciated the synergy that has been established with the North Sumatra Provincial Government and Regional Government. “Thank God, the cooperation has been quite good, this is what we hope to maintain and improve,” said Sebastian.
