Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ vision, renewable energy sources like solar, wind, and hydropower are making significant contributions across the country. To enable ordinary citizens to install solar panels on their rooftops, contributing to environmental conservation while also earning economic benefits, the central government implemented the ‘PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana’.

In this scheme, Gujarat, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, has once again strengthened its global and national identity as a leading renewable energy state. Under the ‘Month of Solar – May 2026’ initiative, part of the ‘PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana’ organized by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Gujarat won five national awards, achieving the best performance among Category-B states.

To mark the completion of two years of the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, a grand national ceremony was held today at ‘Atal Akshay Urja Bhawan’ in New Delhi. At the ceremony, Gujarat was presented with these awards by Union Minister Shri Prahlad Joshi. On behalf of the state government, these prestigious awards were accepted by GUVNL’s Managing Director, Ms. Shalini Agarwal.

In which categories did Gujarat achieve first place nationwide?

Gujarat received the ‘PM Surya Ghar Excellence Award’ for outstanding implementation and best performance, and also secured first place in the country in four other important categories.

Four Other Important Categories

1. Highest number of consumer applications on the National Portal

2. Highest commissioning of rooftop solar

3. Highest number of inspections completed by DISCOM

4. Highest number of vendor registrations

Congratulating the entire state on this historic achievement, GUVNL Managing Director Ms. Shalini Agarwal stated, ‘During the ‘Month of Solar May-2026′ campaign organized by MNRE from May 1 to May 31, 2026, over 3.06 lakh consumer applications were received in Gujarat. Of these, more than 35,000 rooftop solar systems were installed. Additionally, 42,554 DISCOM inspections were completed, and 210 new vendors were registered. Based on this performance, Gujarat secured first place nationwide in all four performance-based categories among Category-B states. Under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, Gujarat has received over 10.66 lakh consumer applications on the National Portal and installed 6.81 lakh rooftop solar systems.’

Furthermore, Ms. Agarwal added that inspired by the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and under the guidance of Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel, Deputy Chief Minister Shri Harsh Sanghvi, Energy Minister Shri Rishikesh Patel, Minister of State Shri Kaushik Vekariya, and Chief Secretary Shri M.
