Medan –
A Colt Diesel truck loaded with cardboard boxes overturned on the Fly Over Amplas, on Jalan Sisingamangaraja, Medan Amplas, Medan, North Sumatra. The accident is suspected to have been caused by the driver falling asleep.
It was reported that the incident occurred around 05:00 AM local time. The truck, with license plate number K 9831 FS, was initially traveling from Medan towards Lubuk Pakam. However, while crossing the Fly Over Amplas, the vehicle experienced a single-vehicle accident and overturned.
“While crossing the Fly Over Amplas, the vehicle had a single-vehicle accident and eventually overturned,” the statement said on Wednesday (June 3, 2026).
Based on the initial investigation at the scene, the accident is suspected to have been triggered by the driver’s drowsy condition, which caused a loss of concentration while driving.
“According to the preliminary sequence, the truck driver was allegedly in a drowsy state, which led to a loss of control, and the vehicle overturned on the Fly Over Amplas,” it was stated.
Fortunately, there were no fatalities or injuries in the incident. However, the scattered cardboard cargo on the road temporarily obstructed the flow of vehicles passing through the location.
“We conducted security and traffic management around the accident site to ease vehicle congestion and ensure the evacuation process ran smoothly,” the statement explained.
In addition to managing traffic, officers also secured the vehicle involved in the accident while waiting for the truck evacuation and the cleanup of the cardboard cargo from the road.
“As of now, the situation at the location is safe and under control. We continue to manage the traffic flow to prevent longer congestion,” it added.
Police authorities urge drivers, especially those of freight vehicles, to ensure they are in good physical condition before traveling to avoid traffic accidents.
Meanwhile, the evacuation of the truck and the cleanup of the accident site are ongoing until the traffic flow returns to normal.
