Hyderabad: Before the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) starting on June 15 in Telangana, Non-Resident Indian (NRI) voters must update their mobile number on the Election Commission of India (ECI) portal. According to election officials, this time NRI voters will be able to complete several procedures online, for which linking the mobile number with the voter ID is mandatory.
Online forms cannot be filled without linking mobile number
During SIR, NRI voters in all districts of Telangana, including Hyderabad, will have to fill online enumeration forms. However, this facility will only be available to those voters whose mobile number is linked to their voter ID. The Election Commission has clarified that without a linked mobile number, the online verification and form submission process cannot be completed.
Name matching in Aadhaar and voter ID is also necessary
NRI voters must also ensure that the name on the voter ID matches exactly with the name on the Aadhaar card. Since Aadhaar-based authentication will be done while submitting the form, any discrepancy in the name can hinder the process.
How to link mobile number with voter ID?
To link the mobile number, voters can log in to the ECI portal and fill ‘Form-8’. This form is used for correction and updating of voter details. After submitting the form, a one-time password (OTP) will be sent to the registered mobile number. Upon successful verification through the OTP, the mobile number will be linked to the voter ID.
Special intensive revision process to begin from June 15
The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Telangana stated that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in the state will begin on June 15. The work of preparing the voter list will be carried out from June 15 to June 24, while a door-to-door verification campaign will be conducted from June 25 to July 24.
Final voter list to be published on October 1
After the verification process is complete, a draft voter list will be published. Following this, claims and objections will be accepted from July 31 to August 30. After all objections and claims are resolved, the final voter list will be published on October 1. The Election Commission has urged NRI voters to update their details in time so that they can participate in the voting process without any hassle.
