Hyderabad: Man arrested for stealing gold jewelry from a female passenger.
Hyderabad, Afzalgunj police arrested a thief, Annareddy Venkata Shiva Reddy alias Shiva (35), who stole 20 tolas of gold jewelry from the luggage of a female passenger traveling in a private bus.
Addressing a press conference, G. Chandramohan, Deputy Commissioner of Police for the Golconda Zone, said that the complainant, Dr. D.S. Keerthana (36), a resident of Galaxy Apartments, Kondapur, boarded a sleeper bus of Meena Travels from Srikantham Circle, Anantapur to Hyderabad on the night of April 12. The non-stop bus stopped only near Doni late at night. She reached MGBS Hyderabad at 6 a.m. on April 13.
While getting off the bus, she noticed that 20 tolas of gold jewelry were missing from her luggage. She immediately went to the Afzalgunj police station and filed a complaint. Under the leadership of Afzalgunj Inspector M. Mohan Rao, Detective Inspector B. Ravi Kiran registered the case and, after investigation, arrested the accused, Annareddy Venkata Shiva Reddy, a private employee and resident of Buddayapeta, Kurnool. The stolen 20 tolas of gold jewelry belonging to the complainant were seized from him.

Investigation revealed that the accused was working as a supervisor at a More Supermarket. In addition to drinking alcohol, the accused was addicted to online betting. His hobbies were not being fulfilled by his income, leading him to resort to theft. He would move around in private buses traveling from Anantapur to Hyderabad and steal gold jewelry, cash, etc., from passengers’ luggage. Seven theft cases are registered against him at Anantapur One Town police, Kurnool Three Town police, Vijayawada police, Kadapa police, and Proddatur police stations. After his arrest, he was produced in court and sent to judicial custody.
