New Delhi
New Delhi, the capital of India, was designed and built by the British in the early 20th century, replacing Calcutta as the imperial capital in 1911. Inaugurated in 1931, its central axis, Rajpath, connects the India Gate war memorial to the Rashtrapati Bhavan presidential palace. Today, it serves as the seat of the Indian government, blending colonial-era architecture with a vibrant, modern metropolis.

Its history lies in its cultural impact, becoming a landmark film that was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and is celebrated for its themes of resistance, unity, and the introduction of cricket to a colonial context.

The 74th Academy Awards, held on March 24, 2002, at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, celebrated the best films of 2001. The event also marked the first Oscars held after the September 11 attacks, featuring a more somber and patriotic tone.
