Former Mahishadal MLA Tilak Chakraborty has been arrested for allegedly embezzling lakhs of rupees by promising jobs. This incident has caused widespread unrest in Mahishadal. Based on a complaint filed by the accuser, Mahishadal police summoned the former MLA for questioning. The arrested MLA is accused of embezzling 6 lakh rupees in the name of providing a job at the Geokhali water project. After several hours of interrogation on this matter, police arrested him on Wednesday night. The former MLA will be produced in court on Thursday.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday evening, police arrested Mahesh Kumar Sharma, the Trinamool councilor from Ward 42. It is learned that a complaint was filed against the arrested councilor at the Burrabazar police station last year. Allegations of fraud and extortion were made. Following the change in government, an investigation began based on that complaint. Subsequently, police arrested the councilor on Wednesday night. He will be produced in court on Thursday. For the sake of the investigation, police will seek the accused’s custody. However, all eyes are on what order the court will give.
It is worth noting that since taking oath as Chief Minister, Suvendu Adhikari has been committed to a ‘zero tolerance’ policy against corruption. The BJP government has instructed the police administration to take strict measures to suppress terrorism. In this context, several Trinamool councilors have been arrested previously. Kolkata police arrested Sachin Singh, the Trinamool councilor from Ward 36. Arijit Das Thakur, the Trinamool councilor from Ward 106, who is accused of threatening promoters and shopkeepers for money, is also currently in jail. Additionally, police from Thakurpukur station arrested Sudip Polley, the Trinamool councilor from Ward 123. Now, Trinamool councilor Mahesh Kumar Sharma from Ward 42 has fallen into the investigators’ net. Police are interrogating the accused. On Wednesday, police also arrested Jayprakash Majumdar, a prominent spokesperson for Trinamool. He is accused of occupying a flat for years. The Trinamool leader also faces allegations of molestation.
