Since August 7, continuous heavy rainfall in Yuzhong County, Lanzhou City, Gansu Province, and other areas has triggered mountain floods. As of 3:30 PM on August 8, the disaster has resulted in 10 deaths and 33 missing persons.
After the disaster, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, President of the State, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, emphasized the urgency of searching for missing persons, relocating and resettling affected residents, minimizing casualties, and restoring communication and transportation as quickly as possible. Given the recent increase in extreme weather events, all regions and relevant departments must remain vigilant, strengthen risk forecasting and early warnings, enhance hazard inspections and remediation, and improve emergency response measures to ensure effective flood prevention and disaster relief efforts.
Li Qiang, Premier of the State Council, called for immediate search and rescue operations for missing and trapped individuals, accelerated repair of damaged infrastructure such as communication and transportation networks, and timely relocation of affected residents. As the critical flood season continues, the National Flood Control Headquarters must guide local authorities to remain alert, fulfill responsibilities, and strengthen monitoring and disaster response to minimize casualties.
Following Xi Jinping’s instructions and Li Qiang’s directives, the Ministry of Emergency Management has dispatched a task force to the site to assist in search and rescue efforts, while provincial leaders in Gansu are coordinating disaster relief operations on-site. Currently, all response efforts are proceeding in an orderly manner.
