Information from the Ho Chi Minh City Police on May 28 indicates that the investigative police agency has prosecuted Mai The Nhan (34 years old, known as Mr. Nhan) for investigation into the crime of “illegal drug trafficking.”
According to police, rapper Mr. Nhan is one of 140 people arrested and processed in an inter-provincial drug ring that was dismantled by Team 3 of the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department for Drug Crime Investigation (PC04).
Previously, through monitoring and intelligence gathering, the PC04 Department detected a rising individual involved in drug use and small-scale illegal drug trafficking, operating in the areas of Ben Cat, Thoi Hoa, Binh Duong, Thu Dau Mot, Phu Loi, Thuan Giao, and An Phu wards, named Dang Phan Thanh Tung. From there, many additional links and suspicious subjects were identified.
The PC04 Department reported to the Director of the City Police, who ordered the establishment of a special task force to capture the entire criminal network.
On April 15, following leads, Team 3 of the PC04 Department arrested Tung while he was transporting illegal drugs for distribution.
Continuing the investigation, police forces simultaneously deployed multiple task forces to track down a series of individuals who were key points of distribution, retail sellers, and drug users.
Starting from the lead of Dang Phan Thanh Tung, the PC04 Department captured 3 main suspects who sold drugs to Tung. They identified and processed 12 sub-branches that bought drugs from Tung to organize illegal use and sell to individual addicts.
Notably, the investigation revealed that the subjects operated in a mobile, complex, and inter-provincial manner across the Southern and Central Highlands regions.
From a tip about a large-scale drug transaction, the PC04 Department deployed forces, set up an ambush, and caught a suspect red-handed while transporting over 5 kg of drugs from the Central Highlands region to Ho Chi Minh City for distribution.
To date, the investigative police agency of the City Police has prosecuted 105 suspects for crimes including “illegal drug trafficking, transportation, storage, and organization of drug use.”
At the same time, 35 individuals have been sent to compulsory rehabilitation. Authorities have seized over 9 kg of various synthetic drugs, 11 precision scales, 40 sets of drug use equipment, 2 cars, numerous motorcycles, more than 70 mobile phones, and many documents and pieces of evidence related to criminal activities.
Several individuals who acted as lookouts, accomplices, or concealed criminal activities have also been detected and processed according to the law.
Starting from one drug user, the Ho Chi Minh City Police tracked down, arrested, and interviewed 173 related individuals. Notably, during the pursuit, the ringleaders used pepper spray and weapons to fiercely resist in an attempt to escape.
