Focus on Skill Development, Sustainable Production, and Global Competitiveness

Surat. The Textile Commissioner of the Government of India conducted a comprehensive visit to major textile institutes and industrial units in Surat.

During this visit, Fairdeal Integrated Textile Park, the Integrated Textile and Apparel Development Center in Katargam, the South Gujarat Textile Processors Association hall in Pandesara, and textile processing units and the Common Effluent Treatment Plant in Pandesara GIDC were inspected.

The main objective of the visit was to strengthen the textile value chain, promote skill development, entrepreneurship, sustainable production systems, and enhance the global competitiveness of the Indian textile industry.

During the inspection of Fairdeal Integrated Textile Park, the Textile Commissioner observed technical textiles, modern weaving techniques, pre-weaving facilities, worker housing, the Common Facility Center, and common effluent treatment facilities.

Emphasis was placed on the need for coordinated efforts with local bodies for textile waste management and recycling, stating that environmentally friendly industrial development is a future necessity.

During the visit to ITADC, Surat, the training, testing, e-commerce onboarding, entrepreneurship development, and technical services being provided for the decentralized power loom and computerized embroidery sectors were appreciated.

The need to widely disseminate the success stories of trained entrepreneurs through digital platforms and social media was also stressed.

At a certificate distribution ceremony held at the South Gujarat Textile Processors Association hall in Pandesara, the Textile Commissioner awarded certificates to 35 young individuals trained under the joint skill development program of ITADC and 36T Solutions.

These training programs included classroom-based education along with industrial training and practical experience.

In the address, young people and emerging entrepreneurs were inspired to develop businesses based on innovation, quality, sustainability, and cost competitiveness.

Referring to the emerging global “China Plus One” strategy, it was stated that this is a major opportunity for the Indian textile industry, through which India can establish a strong presence in the global market.

Taking advantage of the export opportunities arising from Free Trade Agreements with countries such as the European Union, the United Kingdom, and New Zealand was also urged.

The Textile Commissioner said that government schemes should not be seen merely as a means to obtain subsidies, but as an opportunity for business expansion, modernization, and capacity development.

The need to increase awareness about global events like Bharat Tex and Techtextil India, as well as various schemes of the ministry, was also emphasized.

During the inspection of textile processing units and the CETP located in Pandesara GIDC, the wastewater treatment and recycling system was observed.

Appreciating the collective efforts of industries in the areas of environmental protection, water reuse, and resource efficiency, this was described as an important step towards sustainable industrial development.

This visit reflects the commitment of Surat’s textile industry to skill development, environmental compliance, entrepreneurship promotion, and global competitiveness, which is considered significant in strengthening the vision of a self-reliant and developed India.
