Senator Robin Padilla speaks during the Senate plenary session on May 13, 2026.

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) will file an obstruction of justice case with the Department of Justice (DOJ) against Sen. Robin Padilla and other individuals behind the planned escape of Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa from the Senate’s protective custody.

According to the CIDG, what Padilla did for dela Rosa in the early morning of May 14 cannot be considered just giving him a ride in his vehicle.

“Following a thorough investigation, the CIDG has officially concluded that the transport of Senator Dela Rosa was not a mere hitch ride on Senator Padilla’s car, but a highly coordinated, pre-planned logistical maneuver specifically executed to avoid detection,” the CIDG stated.

The CIDG also identified another vehicle that served as an escort and backup car for Padilla’s vehicle.

The CIDG emphasized that the legal action is in line with their mandate to conduct investigations and enforce the law fairly and without bias. When individuals actively interfere with an arrest or help criminals evade prosecution, it undermines the justice system and compromises public order.

On May 22, Padilla stated that dela Rosa simply hitched a ride because he had no vehicle with him, which he could not refuse, and that he dropped him off in Makati City.
