Senator Panfilo ‘Ping’ Lacson has begun investigating flood control projects and reportedly uncovered alleged ‘ghost projects’ worth P200 million during his inquiry with his staff.
In an interview on the billionaire news channel’s ‘Agenda’ Monday evening, August 4, Lacson revealed that he and his staff are preparing his privilege speech regarding flood control projects nationwide.
“We had a staff meeting because I am drafting my privilege speech about flood control projects across the country. It appears we have stumbled upon at least one ghost project,” Lacson told ‘Agenda’ anchor Korina Sanchez-Roxas.
“We are still validating it, but it seems the amount involved is nearly P200 million. No actual project was implemented. So we are checking and rechecking whether this is indeed a ghost project or if my team simply visited the wrong location,” Lacson said.
Meanwhile, the senator expressed his full support for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s rejection of allies involved in anomalous transactions.
Lacson added that he supports the President’s anti-corruption efforts through his own research and investigations into questionable projects.
“The President is on a roll, and we should encourage him further. When he called out members of Congress with his now widely quoted ‘Have some shame’ remark, followed by his announcement yesterday that the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has already submitted its report on defective and anomalous flood control projects, the ball is now in his hands to fulfill his promise of holding accountable all those involved—errant contractors and their government cohorts,” the senator emphasized.
