According to Opta’s supercomputer, the European champions have a 15.43% chance of winning the 2026 World Cup, the highest among the 48 participating teams.

Opta’s prediction is considered quite reasonable, as Spain is in excellent form with a fiery attacking style.

Not to mention, Spain begins their journey in Group H alongside Saudi Arabia, Cape Verde, and Uruguay.

This is a group where Spain should have no trouble finishing first.

Meanwhile, despite having a “super squad,” the reigning world runners-up France rank second in terms of World Cup 2026 winning probability: 12.54%.

Next is England at 10.88%. The reigning champions Argentina rank fourth with a 10.28% chance of successfully defending their title.

Portugal and Cristiano Ronaldo rank fifth with a relatively low winning probability of 6.73%.

Following in subsequent positions are Brazil, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Belgium, and Colombia. Although Japan aims to win the 2026 World Cup, they are outside the top 15 in terms of winning probability.

With a significant increase in the number of teams and venues, the 2026 World Cup is expected to generate massive carbon emissions, potentially becoming the most polluting sporting event in history.
