A launch ceremony for the 2026 “Joyful Silver Age” series of activities, along with a senior arts performance, was held in Chongqing on May 20.

As part of the 2026 Western Region Silver Consumption Season, the event aims to enrich the spiritual and cultural lives of seniors, provide a platform for their artistic and sports activities, and activate new momentum in silver consumption, showcasing the healthy and upward-looking spirit of Chongqing’s elderly population in the new era.

At the event, the six major themes of the 2026 “Joyful Silver Age” activities were officially announced, including “Silver Arts,” “Silver Health and Wellness,” “Silver Cultural Creativity,” “Silver Reading,” “Silver Fitness,” and “Silver Science Popularization.” These six sections comprehensively build a full-dimensional service framework covering spiritual culture, health and wellness, and knowledge dissemination for seniors.

Specifically, the Chongqing Municipal Culture and Tourism Commission will focus on the “Silver Arts” and “Silver Health and Wellness” themes, launching a series of senior arts performances and wellness experience activities to enrich cultural offerings for the elderly and promote healthy aging concepts. The Chongqing Senior University Association will concentrate on the “Silver Cultural Creativity” theme, announcing plans for collecting and exhibiting senior-created cultural and creative works, encouraging seniors to use their talents to produce products with both cultural depth and contemporary features.

The Hongye Channel of Chongqing Media Group will closely follow the “Silver Reading” theme, introducing silver-age book clubs, classic recitation events, and other activities to foster a reading atmosphere among seniors and nourish their spiritual lives. The Chongqing Senior Sports Association will focus on the “Silver Fitness” theme, launching senior fitness competitions and science-based exercise guidance activities, promoting suitable fitness programs for the elderly to support healthy aging. The Chongqing Senior Science and Technology Workers Association will concentrate on the “Silver Science Popularization” theme, conducting lectures and smart assistance activities to help seniors bridge the digital divide and improve their scientific literacy.

“The ‘Joyful Silver Age’ series aims to help seniors gain happiness, experience joy, and promote health through these activities,” said a relevant official from the Chongqing Civil Affairs Bureau. This theme announcement is both a concrete implementation of the national “Joyful Silver Age” activity deployment and an innovative practice to integrate municipal resources for seniors and build Chongqing’s own “Joyful Silver Age” brand. The six major themed activities will run throughout the year and cover the entire city, bringing spiritual and cultural feasts to the doorsteps of elderly friends, providing them with more diverse and higher-quality spiritual and cultural services.

Meanwhile, the senior arts performance was a great success. Multiple outstanding senior art troupes from Chongqing presented choral performances, various themed dances, fashion dramas, martial arts and equipment demonstrations, and poetry recitations. With their vibrant spirit and exquisite artistic skills, they offered the public a high-quality silver culture feast that combined thoughtfulness, artistry, and entertainment.
