Arishima Memorial Museum

The Arishima Memorial Museum is located in Niseko, Hokkaido, and is dedicated to the life and works of Takeo Arishima, a prominent Japanese novelist and essayist of the early 20th century. The museum is housed in his former villa, which he built in 1926 as a retreat and where he wrote many of his later works. The site offers insight into Arishima’s literary legacy, his progressive social ideas, and his connection to the natural landscape of Hokkaido.

Niseko Town

Niseko Town, located on Japan’s northern island of Hokkaido, is a renowned destination famous for its world-class powder snow and outdoor recreation. Originally a rural area centered on agriculture and dairy farming, it transformed into an international ski and tourism hub beginning in the 1990s, with significant foreign investment and development. The town’s name is derived from the Ainu word “niseyko,” meaning “cliff jutting over a river,” reflecting its indigenous roots.
